Comment: COX-2 and VEGF inhibitors could be considered as clinical treatment and prevention on the esophageal carcinoma

Cyclooxygenase (COX) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) play important roles in animals, especially in the carcinogenesis and the metastasis of the tumor. In the current issue of Life Science Journal, Xing et al offer the article of Changes of COX-2 and VEGF expressions in esophageal precancerous and cancerous lesions from the patients at high incidence area in Henan province. This article describes the expressions of COX-2 and VEGF in the patients with esophageal cancers and shows that the correlation between the expressions of COX-2 and VEGF was statistically significant. This suggests that COX-2 and VEGF play important roles in esophageal carcinogenesis and may be potential molecular targets for the esophageal prevention and treatment.
